Calvary Chapel congregation stunned as Chuck Smith announces that he has lung cancer

COSTA MESA, CA (ANS) -- The congregation at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, California, were stunned today (Sunday, January 01, 2012) when Pastor Chuck Smith, it senior pastor, announced during his Sunday morning services that he has lung cancer and will have a biopsy on Tuesday and surgery the following week.

Chuck Smith started preaching in the 1960s Chuck Smith, now in his eighties and the father of the Jesus People Revolution in Southern California, said that he has never smoked in his life.
At at the end of the third service that was broadcast on KWVE 107.9 FM, his son-in-law, Brian Brodersen, joined with other pastors at the huge church and anointed him with oil and prayed for his healing.

Karl Corcoran, evangelism pastor at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, posted on Facebook, “Update: Pastor Chuck Smith having surgery this month for lung cancer after a series of tests this week. Estimated recovery time is 3 weeks."

In response to the posting, Kathy Buckley Keys said, “We were stunned with the news of Pastor Chuck. His ways are higher than ours and He is able to keep that which is committed to Him so we commit Pastor Chuck and all that is related to him, family, doctors and treatments to the Great Physician who knows Pastor Chuck intimately and ask for His guidance, favor, love and support through this time.”

Shortly after the announcement, the KWVE Facebook page was flooded with goodwill messages for Chuck Smith.

Joni Barger wrote, “I'm praying for a miracle. I'm an avid listener to the radio program. Pastor Chuck I've learned so much from you. God is with you Sir.”

Kim Krabbenhoft-Ancora posted, “Oh I am so sad...tears...we will be lift him up in prayer...but as said above, Pastor Chuck of all people will use this to bring Glory to The Lord!!!"

Adrianna Kneefel added, “We love you Pastor Chuck...the Lord uses your life daily to feed thousands of His sheep. Praying that much fruit would come out of this and that the the sickness would be removed in Jesus name... we speak words of life! Lord let your servant live and continue to bring the Word. Chuck is a bright light in a dark age... Lord let his light shine!"

Rachel Fret said, “I was floored when I heard the news this morning. Praying for Papa Chuck and his family. .. my husband had an aunt who died of lung cancer a few years ago. She never smoked in her whole life. Doctors assumed that it was due to where she was living...Redlands, Ca...air pollution. Don't know but yeah, we found out then that it's not a cancer caused by smoking.”

And Cassandra Voight Estes posted, “Praying... Please Lord keep Chuck with us so that others might hear your precious word. You have blessed Chuck all these years. I know he will not waste his cancer and you will use it for you glory.”

In a previous tribute to Chuck Smith, ANS correspondent, Brian Nixon, who for several years co-hosted Pastors Perspective with Chuck Smith, wrote: “Pastor Chuck Smith, founder of the Calvary Chapel Movement and one of the key figureheads of the Jesus Movement, has touched the hearts and lives of countless of people in his six decades of ministry.

“Not to mention his influence upon the fabric of Christian culture: from the 2,000 plus Calvary Chapel churches spanning the globe to the praise-and-worship phenomena initiated in the 1960’s. His impact looms large in the halls of modern Christian history.

“Sadly, however, Pastor Chuck had a brief setback, suffering a couple of what were described as ‘mini-strokes’ at his home on December 27, 2009.

“I was blessed to have worked side-by-side with Pastor Chuck for almost eight years, covering numerous fields: education, publishing, radio, and television.

“Not only was I able to glean from his words, thoughts, answers, and actions, on a weekly basis, but I was also able to watch him in a variety of situations: answering questions on a radio program we hosted together, cooperating with him on books, brainstorming and praying with him through tough educational situations. And, most special of all, to watch his interaction with other human beings.

“Let me say that ... Pastor Chuck is a true gentleman. He is a man who understands God’s grace and the need for people to experience that grace in the love of Christ.”

From Sinking Sand is an extraordinary book by Author Marsha Lenski testifying to her moral failure in the form of an adulterous affair. Marsha has been featured on “Life Today” with James and Betty Robison and CBN’s 700 Club with her amazing testimony. Her story is a familiar one; at the time, she had no idea the ripple effect her adulterous affair would have in her life, nor that her moral failure would ever be discovered. What makes this book so extraordinary is that the author is brazenly honest and surprisingly transparent as she takes the reader back to her time of playing with the fire of adultery. Not only did she get burned in the process, being reduced to a pile of ashes, but her husband, her children, her close friends and family, extended friends and even acquaintances all learned that no one can play with fire and not get burned. Not only was her life forever changed, but also that of everyone she knew.

This book is a wake-up call to all who might consider adultery as some light thing. Not only is this book a warning, it provides substantial scriptural application that shows how not to ‘build your house on sinking sand’ while yet offering great hope. It seems that some would have no problem with slandering others. Of course the "it's my opinion, or I've discerned, or ..... seems to be the wording at times.

Let's see here. You're husband walks in pride, the woman shares with the husbands wife. About 13 months ago, my wife came to me about a dream. She drempt that there was a landslide and all these homes were buried in sand. That people were trying to climb out of the sand and many had broken arms, legs and were injured in other ways. Today we have been watching that dream come to pass, as millions are loosing their homes.

I recently had a dream and in the dream I watched an entire hillside literally sink and was no more. As if the earth beaneath it just opened up and swollowed the hillside.

You see, as one thing was being premeditated, God acted and counteracted.

A Recent Symbolic Dream

I'm way behind on posting revelation as there is so much unfolding. Here's a interesting dream and most importantly, I am not the producer of the dream, the cast director, the play write, the sound man or the director. That's the Holy Spirit's part.

I found myself standing at a counter and a young man named David walked up to me and handed me a colorful bag. I looked at the bags and knew that it's contents were cans of food.

I then turned to a standard size refrigerator, opened the door and there were stacks and stacks of aluminum trays filled with homemade enchilada's with all the trimmings. So I grabbed a plate and placed a enchilada on the plate and handed it to the young man.

As I was doing this, my dad (symbolic) walked up to me and said "your wife (symbolic) is in the next room (symbolic) filing for divorce", so I walked into the next room and there was my wife sitting with another woman (symbolic) who was quite shocked that I walked up as she was instigating this process.

So I walked up to my wife (symbolic) and said "If you want a divorce, you can have one. I don't want one, but if that's what you want, I have the authority to give you one, but the baby (symbolic) goes with me.

Interesting dream, however right on course.
The scriptural application to the above symbolic dream is profound.

God moves in seasons. He even calls us to seasons. Unfortunately many times we don't listen. Pride, stubbornness and the flesh get in the way. Yet God's love, grace, compassion and long suffering sees us through.

Sometimes we take advantage of God's extended mercies and that pride, stubbornness and old man get in the way. Within this we can miss visitations, then again, and again and again. We think we can hold God accountable with that but all these years I did this, and I did that and the you oh me God mentality.

About that time God brings change, and more change and more change. About that time God pulls that Ace out of His sleeve and moves forward with His plans and His purposes.

"The change will be like a woman giving birth. At first no one will see it, then the evidence will start to show, then more, then more and then the new will be birthed". That which nothing can abort, change, hinder or stop.

Life comes with dirty dishes, and dish washing. Thank God for automatic dishwashers. Unfortunately, some of life's dishes have to be hand washed. Fun stuff.

So what do you do when the dirty dishes start stacking up? Well first of all maybe it would be better to wash them daily, rather than waiting till the kitchen is overflowing with dishes and you find yourself standing there overwhelmed. Otherwise the months and sometimes even seasons pass, and before you know it, you have stacks of dirty dishes.

You see, we all create dirty dishes in life, and many times we have to clean up our own messes. The key (which is just not that simple) is not to make messes, and end up with stacks of dirty dishes.

The dishes are the plates that we create and the messes are the decisions we make, and/or do not make. You might say "how is that possible?". Oh that's easy, we are all human, and live in these flesh bodies. "No not one!".

WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD
Actually there were two chickens. The first chicken crossed the road because he thought it was there to be crossed. The second chicken followed the first chicken, because the first chicken liked to be followed.

Then when both the chickens got to the other side of the road, the other side of
the road was a mirror imagine of this side of the road and offered nothing of value.

However the first chicken (set in his old ways) continued going forward and fell into a shallow ditch. The second chicken turned around and realized that the road had become a flowing river and also realized that he was a duck.

So the duck jumped into the river and went with the rivers flow. Then as the duck flowed with the river, other ducks jumped into the river and they all ended up in a huge lake filled with an abundance of water.

Then all the ducks quacked, and quacked and splashed and splashed and the lake was filled with joy.

Then the second chicken who realized that he was a duck wondered where the first chicken was, and then all the ducks prayed and prayed and the first chicken climbed out of the shallow hole, jumped into the river and ended up in the huge lake and all the duckies lived happily everafter.

The moral of the story is, that sometimes it takes a duck to show the chicken the way.

All Prophecy Is Given To Build Up, To Encourage, And To Comfort?

Many times there is a confusion that comes forth because many don't realize that there is a difference between the "office of a prophet" and "the gift of prophecy". One is exactly that being a office, with totally different functions, yet the same. The other is a gift of the spirit which Paul addressed in scripture.

The consensus is that all prophecy must be uplifting, encouraging, edifying, and bring comfort to the hearer. Unfortunately that leaves out many other truths according to the scriptures and closes not only the word of God off, but the power of prophecy in many areas and functions.

1Cr 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

Lets examine the word exhort.

Now lets examine the word of God within the New Testament.

Act 5:1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, Act 5:2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. Act 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Act 5:4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. Act 5:5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. Act 5:6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

Act 5:7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. Act 5:8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. Act 5:9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Act 5:10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

Now that was real encouraging, edifying, comforting and that which was spoken as a prophetic unction built up "Ananias and Sapphira" not to mentioned all the on lookers. Where is the grace, salvation, and the redemption of God in this word and what occurred? Couldn't a few bucks have been overlooked? OK, they lied not only to men, but the Holy Ghost.? Where was the blood of Christ, forgiveness, redemption?

Act 5:11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Now what is this? Great fear came upon ALL the church as many HEARD (the prophecy, prophetic words) these things.

Since when is FEAR edifying and encouraging? Yet we are not given a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind? Interesting.

Lets examine just a few other scriptures out of hundreds that could be brought to light from the new testament.

Mar 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

Now that is encouraging! It is also prophetic. Yet seconds later it reads.

Mar 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: What?

This is also a prophetic word, and it is not encouraging at all. It is a warning. A very stern warning with major consequences. (Who was speaking here and who were the listeners?)

Lets examine another scripture.

Mat 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: BUT whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Another prophetic word. Now that is very encouraging! Sounds like a warning to me. Sounds like a very stern warning that speaks of consequences. Bottom line “Don't Do It!” and if you have "repent quickly".

Here is a perfect example of what can happen when revelation come to a person from the Father.

Mat 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. Mat 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, BLESSED art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but MY FATHER which is in heaven.

Wow! That is a awesome thing for one to hear the very Lord Jesus Christ say, blessed are you! Now that is encouraging, uplifting, comforting.

Minutes later

Mat 16;23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

"Awe! Those things that be of men".

What is this? Jesus just spoke a blessing over Peter saying thou art blessed, only to within minutes rebuke Peter, call Peter satan, and say thou art a offense to me. Not very encouraging, comforting, or edifying.

The word of God is full of prophecy, prophetic unctions. Some brings joy to the heart. Some are encouraging, some are edifying, lift you up, give you hope. And others are warnings to change course, to examine yourself, to examine your motives, and so on.

Most people fear, and become offended at the word repent, which simply means “hey I love you, change course, your going the wrong way”.

Sometimes prophecy is spoken in quietness, through edification, in encouragement and other times harshly, other times as a rebuke.

Sometimes it is shared through being herald through a writing being made plain on a tablet. Other times it is shared through a dream, a vision, through revelation and through prophetic unctions as simple as one single word. However there is even more....

That doesn’t mean that God stopped loving us or the person called to receive the word. Can you imagine the voice that Jesus used when he said "blessed are you" only to then rebuke Peter and call him satan and a offense minutes later. Picture that scene, and the emotion involved.

One of the most important words in my opinion in the word of God is the word 'if". If you do this, this will happen, if you do that, that will happen.

If you humble yourself God will exalt you, if you are prideful, God will resist you. If you wait on the Lord, the Lord will renew your strength, if you don’t, you will strive and your strength will not be renewed.

If you walk in the spirit, if you walk in the flesh and on and on it goes. These are all prophetic words with different outcomes. Blessings for obedience, curses for disobedience, prophetic words. If you hearken diligently unto the word (voice) of the Lord God all these blessings will come upon thee and overtake thee, if you don’t they will not and other things will come upon you.

Now as I said, the above is just a few examples out of hundreds and hundreds of scriptures.

The Wilderness Forces Dependence

A prophet's greatest enemy is himself, not Jezebel or religious crustiness or a satanic nemesis. Giftedness has greater power to lure a person into prideful self-sufficiency than the Deceiver himself. Many profoundly gifted prophesiers have shipwrecked their lives and ministries through such self-reliance or gift-reliance, drifting away from daily dependence on Jesus Himself. Such prophets are runaway trains racing toward a head-on collision with humbling and reckoning.

The desert is a place of lack, whether it be relational, social, ministerial, financial, or some other personal need or want. Though God ultimately intends to fill what is lacking, He will not do so until every semblance of self-sufficiency and self-dependence is burned, baked, crushed, stomped, and obliterated by the heat. The burning desert sands will scorch our pridefully calloused feet until, at last, we break and fall to our knees in permanent dependence on Him. Hosea 13:5: I cared for you in the desert, in the land of burning heat. God uses the desert to become our Caretaker, melting away our "I can take care of myself" sickness. We will only come up from the wilderness when we are sufficiently leaning on our Lover, not our self or our gift. See the symbolism in Song of Songs 8:5: Who is this coming up from the desert leaning on her lover?

The Hindering Spirit

There's no doubt that we need rules in life to follow. Being accountable to a good thing, is a good thing. Many prefer the word "guidelines" over the word rules. Personally I think rules and guidelines are healthy, good, and honorable.

Even within the church's there are rules. They are also called commandments. Within the structure of any corporation, or government, there are rules, guidelines set forth which again is a good thing.

However when the rules of men, the rule guy, sets forth rules to control others, control the gifts of the spirit, and lord over others and the flock of God. That is not a good, or a God breathed thing. When men desire to stand out, exalt themselves in the eye's of the flock and build ministries for themselves using man made rules over the very scriptures and word of God. That is the flesh, fleshly desires and not a God breathed thing. The end result is "a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof".

The end result is "a quenching of the spirit of God, the gifts of the spirit, and a dead and powerless church. The end result is that the body suffers.

You see all the rules ever needed with regards to the functioning of the church, and it's members within any given body or congregation are written in the word of God, the very sure foundation of the church. However when we deviate from the word of God, and set up man made rules, we also hinder the very anointing of God from freely flowing.

John Paul Jackson

Over this past weekend. John Paul Jackson of Streams Ministries ministered at a conference at our church. I didn't attend Friday nights session, however did attend Saturday and Sundays sessions.

Over the years I have heard many wonderful things about this man, his ministry and viewed his ministry web site may times. I would just like to share that from a personal perspective. I found John Paul Jackson to be a very warm, loving, compassionate and kind man with a heart for God, His bride and that others would be blessed. His teachings were wonderful, uplifting and very humble.

So if Stream's Ministries comes to a theater near you. Consider attending. You will be encouraged and blessed through the teachings and prophetic ministry.

I Missed The Event

Tonight a well known prophet in the body of Christ is teaching at a conference at a local church. Actually it is a three day conference with worship, preaching, teachings, and of course ministry time. Should be a great gathering and event.

I was unable to attend tonight because the door fee is pretty high. There's a price for couples and a price for singles. I understand it cost money to support a ministry. I spend 10 to 14 hours online everyday sharing the love of Christ around the world through our ministry network of 100 online sites, for free. Every once in a while someone buys me a lunch, a dinner, or sows some pocket change my way. Won't even fill the tank up on the car, or come close to paying the monthly fees to run a online ministry network of 100 separate ministry sites. But that's not why I do this.

So I missed out tonight on hearing the Word of God preached, the worship, the gathering, the event. Yet my prayers are that all who did attend will be blessed and that God was blessed through the worship. Well back to what I love doing. Ministering online around the world.

The Love Of The Father

Sometime I think that we overlook a very profound situation that unfolded in Jesus's life, and a very profound set of scriptures.

The scriptures share Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Think about that.

"This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased".

Imagine not only hearing the words of the Father, but also experiencing the very love of the Father that Christ experienced in that moment as the Holy Spirit descended upon Him. Imagine the very windows of heaven being opened over your life and heaven coming to earth in one's life through an outpouring of the Father's love.

Just imagine hearing the voice of the Father, the very heart and compassion within the Father's voice saying "I love you, you are my beloved son or daughter".

I have had the privilege of sitting under the pastoral care of a man that teaches about the Love Of The Father in a very profound scriptural way. I have also had the privilege of experiencing the very out pouring of God's love being shed forth by the Holy Spirit in ways that left me in complete awe, and in ways that were life changing.

Out of the mouth come forth blessings and curses. How true.

Have you ever been the victim of angry hateful words? They have an affect. It is the same with words of encouragement, love, and blessings. Unlike words of anger and hatred, words of encouragement, love, and blessings are sweet to the soul, and encouraging to the ears and heart.We speak words daily, sometimes hourly.

They are like seeds sown that are heard and can fall into the hearts of others, grow and produce fruit. Therefore let our words be seeds of love, of compassion, and of encouragement. That doesn't mean that occasionally prophetic words, words sown can't be hard, or exhorting one to greater things, and away from sin, trouble, and a path of destruction. The scriptures are full of such words, passages, and prophetic unctions. There are those times.

Yet our world, humanity, is full of words, seeds, that are full of hatred, bitterness, strife, contention, and murderous thought. Words that create more of the very seed and essence that they are of.

Let us walk in love, by the spirit, in Christ, and sow words of love, of compassion, of blessings, having mercy and of encouragement.

However I would like to share something very profound with you about the office of a prophet. And guess what? "IT IS FREE" and wont cost you a dime. Infact! FREELY I RECEIVE, FREELY I GIVE........ Blessings, in His Most Glorious Name..

Men do not appoint prophets. THE LORD DOES. Books do not pupose prophets, THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST DOES. Books do teach and mentor to prophets, BUT PROPHETS ARE MOVED BY THE HOLY GHOST.

The following scriptures are a personal bible study that the Holy Spirit led me to search out and study after recieving a vision in 1997, that vision being the DAY OF THE LORD and THE RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST which will soon be posted on this site.

That first vision as the Spirit of Christ came upon me and as I stood in the future, was shown, witnessed, and heard all that was before me within the vision led me deep into the Word of God as the Holy Spirit literally led me on a journey, as I asked one question being "Lord! why have you shown me this".

Such led to a intense 2 year bible study around one vision as the Holy Spirit simply opened the Word of God to me and continued to give me eye's to see, ears to hear and a heart to precieve.
